At a simple ceremony held at the Philippine General Hospital, Manila, Ambassador of India, Jaideep Mazumdar, handed over a cheque from Government of India amounting to US $ 200,000 to Shanti Sipani, Chairman of Mahaveer Philippine Foundation Inc, ( MPFI). MPFI, established in 1989, is a non profit & non-government organization based in Manila and has been instrumental in providing free prosthetic limbs developed in India ( Jaipur foot) to the needy Filipino amputees thereby helping them achieve sustainable livelihood. Speaking on the occasion, Ambassador Mazumdar praised MPFI for its remarkable work and changing the lives of thousands of beneficiaries. He further added that this is a good example on how people of India and the Philippines have come together for this noble cause.
In his opening remarks, Enrique Lim, President of MPFI, thanked the Government of India for its generous contribution which will go a long way to alleviate the hardships of amputees. He also recounted the important milestones of MPFI ever since it was established.
Among the invitees who attended the event were Filipino amputees who had been fitted with Jaipur foot, the Vice Mayor of Manila, Maria Lacuna, the Directors of Philippine General Hospital, Congressmen Amado Bagatsing and members of the MPFI board.
