‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ Activities organised by the Embassy


October 2023


1. Ambassador Shambhu Kumaran and President of Miriam College, Laura del Rosario paid floral tribute to Gandhiji on 02 October 2023 in celebration of his 154th birth anniversary.

The said event was also joined by faculty and students of Miriam College who made a commitment speech on Mahatma Gandhi’s timeless principles of non-violence and truth.


2. Ambassador Shambhu Kumaran addressed the Musical Soiree charity concert by noted singer Ms Roma Pradhan in Manila on 07 October 2023. All proceeds from the show will be used to support education of local street children.


3. Ambassador Shambhu Kumaran greeted the participants of Kabaddi tournament by Indian community organizations led by Filipino Indian Commerce & Welfare Society in Manila on 8 October 2023.

The keen contest between local Kabaddi clubs which includes the guest players from India was supported and cheered by the audience with great enthusiasm and spirit. Truly a game of celebration for cultural exchange and sporting camaraderie for both nations.

The said event was also marked with skillful players showcasing their growing talent and interest in this traditional Indian sport in the Philippines. In addition, the game also brought the participants a sense of togetherness, promoting a sense of unity and friendship between Indian and Filipino people.


4. Ambassador Shambhu Kumaran addressed students and faculty members of De La Salle University, International Studies Organisation at the University’s ‘Diplomatic Hour’ in Manila on 11 October 2023.

Outlining India’s Indo-Pacific strategy with a focus on Southeast Asia and growing bilateral ties with the Philippines which also emphasize India’s pivotal role in regional geopolitics was discussed at the said event. Both nations share a commitment to economic development, maritime security, and sustainable development which deepens regional collaboration. In addition, it opens the door on cooperation in various sectors such as trade, economics, technology, capacity building and defense.

India’s stronger ties with the Philippines also reflects a vision of a peaceful and strategic ties of both nations in the Indo-Pacific region in the future.


5. Ambassador Shambhu Kumaran addressed the plenary of Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) annual business conference in Manila on 26 October 2023.

Focusing on India’s ongoing economic and developmental successes have opened new avenues for expanded bilateral engagement with the Philippines was addressed at the above-mentioned event. This growth has also created opportunities for a stronger trade and investment partnerships between the two nations.

Further, the partnership between India and the Philippines' growth ambitions creates a fertile ground for expanded bilateral engagement, reinforcing beliefs that both nations can thrive together.


6. To observe Vigilance Awareness Week 2023, Ambassador Shambhu Kumaran administered the Integrity Pledge to officials and staff of the Mission in Manila on 30 October 2023.

The pledge is a solemn commitment to promote ethics, integrity and accountability in all aspects of life. This is also to encourage individuals and organisations to prioritize vigilance and transparency. In addition, the pledge also serves as an acknowledgment of individuals for their role in creating a corruption-free society and encouraging good governance, contributing to a more honest and accountable society both in personal and professional endeavors.

Vigilance Awareness week serves as a reminder on importance of ensuring fairness in every action of aspect of life.

7. To observe Rashtriya Ekta Diwas, Ambassador Shambhu Kumaran administered the pledge to the officials and staff of the Embassy of India in Manila on 31 October 2023.

The pledge serves a reminder of the significance of unity, reaffirming the commitment to the unity and integrity of India after its independence. It emphasizes the values of peace, harmony, and the strength of diversity in a multilingual, multicultural, and multi-religious country like India. By taking this pledge, citizens express their dedication to the principles that bind the nation together, encouraging a sense of togetherness and patriotism.

Rashtriya Ekta Diwas is also a time to reflect on the importance of unity and remember the immense contributions of Sardar Patel in shaping modern India.


September 2023


1. Relive the magic of the Cultural Evening on 2 September 2023, on a captivating journey through the mesmerizing performance of Mohiniyattam at SMX, SM Aura, Bonifacio Global City, Metro Manila.


2. On 09 September 2023, a heartwarming performance was given by children from the Indian diaspora about the beauty, history and rich tapestry of the Hindi language in celebration of Hindi Diwas.


3. On 15 September 2023, Ambassador Shambhu Kumaran engaged in “Perspectives of Ramayana” event organised by National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) held at the Metropolitan Theatre Ballroom. The said event was also joined by Diplomatic Corps, Professionals, College Students and Faculty members from different universities in the Philippines.

During the talk session with fellow experts, they had the opportunity to discuss and interact on the iconic Indian epic Ramayana. The discussion delves into Ramayana's thrilling adventures as well as its heritage and importance in the modern world. Insightful exchanges among the experts and participants shed light on the captivating world of Ramayana as a literary gem. The said event was also well received by the audience and Filipino community.


4. On 15 September 2023, Ambassador Shambhu Kumaran, alongside the Chairman of the National Commission for the Culture and the Arts, graces the opening night of Filipino rock opera ballet "Rama, Hari" at the Metropolitan Theater. "Rama, Hari" is presented by the Alice Reyes Dance Company, one of the leading professional dance companies in the Philippines.


5. Illustrating strength, grace, and spirit of womanhood through Kavi Samelan. In celebration of Hindi Diwas, a discussion with female poets weaving the rhythm of words through the enchanting world of poetry in Manila last 16 September 2023. Emphasis on the strength, humor, grace, and spirit of women.

Joined in the discussion are women from the Indian diaspora in the Philippines. Discussion was opened with warmth and wise words giving great importance to the Hindi language all throughout the years. The poetry recital featured notable words of wisdom that tell stories of life today and womanhood from the featured poets. Furthermore, discussion was met with rounds of applause and approval from its audience, indicating the insightful points from the Kavi Samelan.


6.  Ambassador Shambhu Kumaran served as the guest of honor in the 9th luncheon meeting of the Consular Corps of the Philippines in Fairmont Hotel, Makati on 27 September 2023. Shared insights about Indian foreign policy in Amrit Kaal, developing bilateral partnership between India and Philippines. Imparted insights on the significance of collaboration, diplomacy, and development.

Members of the meeting included members of the Consular Corps of the Philippines on matters that concern our diplomatic & consular missions. The event strives for opportunities for fellowship, continuing dialogue, and exchange of information.


7. On 30 September 2023, Ambassador Shambhu Kumaran inaugurated The Great Indian Fiesta in Makati City. The colourful street fiesta showcases products by Indian and Filipino women MSMEs in a range of sectors. Strengthening women-led medium to small enterprises (MSMEs) in the spirit of friendship and entrepreneurship. Innovative businesses and joyous cultural performances empowering communities.


8. On 30 September 2023, Ambassador Shambhu Kumaran addressed the Annual Welcome Celebrations of Adamson University on ‘International Peace through Partnerships’. Outlined India’s civilizational commitment to peace and harmony from the Gita to Gandhi through to the G-20.


August 2023


1. On 10 August 2023, Ambassador Shambhu Kumaran attended the National Day with Embassies event hosted by Makati City Mayor Abigail Binay at City Hall. Ambassador also noted the vibrant people to people ties between India & Philippines and thanked Mayor Binay for the support to the Indian diaspora in Makati.


2. The Embassy of India in Manila celebrated this year’s 77th Independence Day with the Indian community and friends from the Philippines.


3. To observe Sadbhavana Diwas (goodwill and bonafide), Ambassador Shambhu S. Kumaran administered the pledge to the officials and staff of the Embassy of India in Manila on 18 August 2023.

Furthermore, the pledge serves as a reminder of the nation’s unwavering aspirations for India's development and progress. It echoes the vision of a harmonious nation where every citizen regardless of their background, can thrive and contribute to the country’s growth. Reciting the pledge also symbolizes the nation’s commitment to exclusivity, transcending the boundaries of religion and language. Emphasizing the promotion of national unity, peace, empathy and fostering communal harmony among different people of faith and cultures. 


July 2023


1. On 11 July 2023, the Embassy of India in Manila organised a Business to Business (B2B) Meeting with Indian Electrical and Electronics Manufacturers Association (IEEMA) Trade Delegation from India. The event was attended by electrical and allied sectors that can emerge as a new driver of a diversified India-Philippines economic partnership. 

The opening session was also addressed by Ambassador Shambhu S. Kumaran, Department of Transportation (DOTR) Usec. Cesar Chavez, Department of Energy, Construction Industry Authority of the Philippines, and the Philippine Overseas Construction Board.


2. On 22 July 2023, the Embassy of India in Manila supported an Ayurveda culinary workshop to share India’s timeless tradition of health, nourishment & well-being.

Ambassador Shambhu Kumaran addressed the said event. Department of Health (Philippines) Usec Ms. M. Francia Laxamana & Department of Foreign Affairs, Republic of the Philippines ASEC Ms. Aileen Mediola-Rau and Director Ms. Rona Beth Goce joined the workshop on Ayurveda and how we can incorporate Millets in our food and lifestyle.


3. The Embassy of India in Manila, Ambassador Shambhu S. Kumaran graced the annual conference event for the Information Technology and Business Process Management (IT-BPM) industry by the Contact Center Association of the Philippines (CCAP) on 26 July 2023, in Cebu, Philippines. This event served to reaffirm India's strong collaboration with the Philippines in the IT-BPM sector, recognized as a crucial driver of economic growth and a significant aspect of India-Philippines relations. The conference likely focused on discussing future plans, fostering partnerships, and exploring opportunities to further strengthen ties between the two countries in this dynamic and evolving industry.

1.  On 2 June 2023, a yoga pre-event session was conducted by Bharati Indian Expat Women’s Association in collaboration with the Embassy of India in Manila at the Correctional Institution for Women. The practice of Yoga brings an outlook, increasing productivity and motivation.

2.  A yoga session was conducted by Bharati Indian Expat Women’s Association in partnership with the Embassy of India on 6 June 2022 at the Bureau of Fire Protection. By practicing Yoga, firefighters are able to increase their strength and flexibility.

3. The Embassy of India in Manila joined Indian Women in Enterprise in organizing a Yoga practice session at Club United on 11 June 2023. Yoga is a great way to improve flexibility, attracting people of different backgrounds to engage in Yoga.

7 . The Bharati Indian Expat Women’s Association and the Embassy of India in Manila jointly organized a Yoga practice at DSWD’s Haven for Women on 16 June 2023. The session advocates for Yoga as a sustainable approach to healthy-living.

8. The Embassy of India in Manila celebrated the 9th International Day of Yoga (IDY) on 21 June 2023 at Music Hall, SM Mall of Asia. More than 200 enthusiastic yoga participants including diplomats, media groups, Filipinos and other nationalities participated in the annual yoga event. Ambassador of India to the Philippines, H.E. Shambhu Kumaran addressed the gathering. The said event commenced with an inspiring Common Yoga Protocol (CYP) and pranayama/meditation sessions led by Filipino yoga gurus.

3. On 31 May 2023, the Embassy of India in Manila’s first ever India Business Roadshow in the Visayas region of the Philippines. Ambassador Shambhu Kumaran, Governor Arthur Defensor Jr, Mayor Jerry Trenas addressed the said event. 1. On 23 April 2023, the Embassy held the annual Children’s Art Competition by Bharati Manila. The children displayed their creativity on United we Stand, Unity in Diversity & Save the Earth. 1.    On 22 March 2023, the annual Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) Day Reception was held to mark achievements of ITEC alumni in their respective fields. Over 100 alumni including eITEC and partner institutions attended the event as well as  Technical and Skills Development Authority   (TESDA)'s Director-General Danilo Cruz; Armed Forces of the Philippines' Chief of Staff Gen. 2. The Embassy of India presented Bharat Ek Parichay sets of books to the National Library of the Philippines, Quezon City Public Library, and Ninoy Aquino Library and Learning Resource Center on 31 March 2023. The libraries received 75 books each which will allow readers to  get insights and reference on Indian art, culture, religion, philosophy, and economy among others.

1.  The Embassy participated at the "Taste of The World at Adamson" where authentic Indian cuisine was served to the officials, faculty members, staff, and students of Adamson University. An entertaining Bollywood inspired dance presentation was also performed by students at the event.

1. The Embassy organised Flag Hoisting Ceremony at India House in Manila on the occasion of the 74th Republic Day with members of the local Indian community and friends from the Philippines. On the occasion, Ambassador Shambhu S. Kumaran unfurled the national flag and read the Hon. President of India's message to the nation. 1.  On 16 November 2022 Embassy’s FS (PIC & Edu), Mr. Kannan C., delivered a special message at the Center for Peace Education of Miriam College to inspire the youths to follow Gandhi's footsteps in campaigning nonviolence. Copies of Bapu’s autobiography book were also presented on the occasion.

2.   On 20 November 2022, the Embassy in partnership with women-led MSMEs proudly showcased Indian products such as handicrafts, snacks, teas, essentials, groceries, and foods at the International Bazaar 2022 organised by the Department of Foreign Affairs of the Philippines. The Incredible India Pavilions were graced by Mme. Pamela Manalo, Chairperson of International Bazaar Foundation, Inc.; high ranking officials of Department of Foreign Affairs, Republic of the Philippines; diplomats, media & many more. A cultural performance by young Indian classical dancer and an engaging Bollywood number were also featured at the bazaar.

1.  On 2 October in commemoration of Gandhi Jayanti, Ambassador Shambhu Kumaran placed floral tribute to Gandhi Bust in Quezon City. President of Miriam College, Ambassador Laura Quiambao-Del Rosario was also present on the occasion. Ambassador Kumaran also gifted copies of Gandhiji’s autobiography to Center for Peace Education of Miriam College.

2.  The Embassy’s First Secretary (PIC & Education), Mr. Kannan graced a one-day Seminar on Ayurveda on the occasion of Ayurveda Day on 23 October in Mandaluyong City. The said seminar also served as an orientation for the Filipino nationals who wish to know about Ayurveda and its importance. The seminar was also graced by representatives from Mandaluyong City Health Office and Philippine Institute of Traditional and Alternative Health Care.

1. The Embassy in collaboration with Bharati - Indian Expat Women's Association, Manila organised a session on "Dance, Mythology, Movement, Wellness, & Life" with Ms. Sohini Rowchodhury, an award-winning Bharatanatyam dancer, and was attended by members of the Indian diaspora and young students of Indian Classical dance.



August 2022


1. The Embassy organised a Flag Hoisting Ceremony at the India House in Manila on the morning of 15 August 2022 on the occasion of the 75th Year of India's Independence. The ceremony began with Ambassador Shambhu S. Kumaran unfurling the Indian tricolour and the singing of Indian National Anthem. On the occasion Ambassador Kumaran also felicitated the winners of the  AKAM Online Quiz organised by the Ministry of External Affairs. The ceremony was attended by a large gathering including members of the local Indian diaspora and friends of India. The Embassy officials and a member of Indian community presented a cultural programme which was much appreciated by the gathering.

2.  The Embassy organised a National Day Reception on the occasion of the 75th Year of India's Independence on 15 August 2022 at the Shangri-La, Taguig. The reception was attended by First Lady H.E Louise Araneta-Marcos; Hon. Martin Romualdez, Speaker of the House of Representatives; Department of Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Theresa P. Lazaro; other senior representatives of Philippines government, armed forces, business and media as well as diplomatic corps and Indian community in the Philippines. A cultural programme including the performance of the Philippine Madrigal Singers' rendition of Indian folk songs and a colourful presentation of India's iconic sarees were presented on the occasion.

June 2022


1. International Day of Yoga was celebrated on 21 June at the Music Hall in Pasay City with an estimate of 200 yoga enthusiast participating in the in-person yoga session. The main event was live streamed on Mission’s YouTube channel and live footage was telecast on DD India as part of the Guardian Ring For Yoga initiative. As part of the IDY celebration, the Mission also presented certificates of appreciation to leading yoga schools and teachers in Manila in recognition of their valuable contribution towards creating awareness about yoga practice in the Philippines. The IDY logo was also projected on the iconic MOA Globe as part of the celebration.

2.  On 15 June, the Mission in collaboration with the Integrative Lifestyle and Well-being (ILAW) Center of the Miriam College organised a yoga workshop for students, staff and faculty of the college. On 17 June, a yoga seminar with practical yoga workshop was organised in collaboration with the Asian Centre of the University of the Philippines – the national university of the Philippines.

May 2022

The Embassy publicly launched the "Kwentong Jatataka" podcast- a project produced by the Embassy in partnership with Areté Ateneo, on 31 May. This project comprising of 12 short and engaging stories in podcast format consists of stories from the Jataka Tales translated in to Filipino. The podcasts are available for free on the website and YouTube Channel of the Embassy, website of Areté Ateneo as well as on Spotify and Apple podcasts.


April 2022


1. The Embassy in collaboration with Bharati Indian Expat Women's Association celebrated Earth Day 2022 and Azadi Ka Amrit Mohotsav with an Art Competition for Kids on Apr 23. The young artists through their artwork expressed there ideas on how to make India and Earth a beautiful, green and colorful place to live in. The children from the ages 6 to 17 participated enthusiastically in large numbers.




March 2022


1. On 12 March, the Indian Women in Enterprise (I-WE), Philippines (Indian diaspora organisation) supported by the Embassy launched 'Tech2Transform' - a digital series that aims to empower women-led MSMEs in the Philippines. The inauguration was addressed by Ambassador Shambhu Kumaran and Hon. Sandra S. Montano - Chairperson of the Philippine Commission on Women.

3. The Mission participated at the 2nd Montañosa Film Festival held at Baguio City from 19-27 March 2022. Three Indian films namely: "Hindi Medium," "Neerja," "Poorna: Courage Has No Limit" were screened at prominent hotels in Baguio City.

4. ITEC Day was organised on 29 March, celebrating the growing India-Philippines partnership in training & capacity building. Ambassador Shambhu Kumaran, Secretary Isidro S. 1. The Embassy hosted a Republic Day function at India House in presence of the members of Indian community in the Philippines. On the occasion, Ambassador Shambhu S. Kumaran unfurled the national flag and read the Hon. President of India's message to the nation. A cultural programme with poetry and song presentations added patriotic fervour to the celebrations..

1. To mark Constitution Day of India, the Embassy partnered with ABS-CBN News and produced a conceptualized segment  to share information about India’s Constitution. TV Patrol’s segment called “Alam N’yo Ba?” (“Did You Know?”) shared interesting facts about India’s Constitution and Indian Culture. Dr. Joefe Santarita, former dean of the University of the Philippines - Asian Center was interviewed by a local TV channel.  Ambassador was interviewed by GMA Network on Indian constitution and democracy.

1. The Embassy organised an Online Lecture Series on Ayurveda led by Indian and Filipino Ayurvedic practitioners and experts to make Ayurveda more accessible to the Filipinos. The topics of the lectures focused on the benefits of 'Ayurveda for Nutrition', the theme of the 6th Ayurveda Day.

In Palau, the Embassy in collaboration with the Honorary Consulate of India to Palau and with the support of the Office of the Ministry of State of the Republic of Palau organised a live yoga demonstration event held at Ngarachamayong Cultural Center, Koror on 20 June and was attended by a hundred of yoga enthusiasts from the Diplomatic community in Palau, locals and members of other nationalities in Palau.
